About Kanchanaburi War Cemetery

This is the main cemetery for prisoners of war who died building the Burma Railway. It's on Saeng Chuto Road, the main road through Kanchanaburi, near the site of the former base camp. It holds 6,982 graves, mostly British, Australian and Dutch, and 6,858 of the men have been identified. Colin St Clair Oakes designed it, and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission looks after it.
