About Hellfire Pass

Hellfire Pass is a cutting about 75 meters long and 25 meters deep, the largest on the Burma Railway, dug with forced labor and few proper tools. The name came from the sight of starving prisoners working by torchlight. The Hellfire Pass museum is in Sai Yok district, about 80 kilometers from Kanchanaburi town on Highway 323. It has a permanent exhibition and a small theater, and a walking trail of about 2.5 kilometers takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.
