About Wat Phra That Phanom

Wat Phra That Phanom is in That Phanom district, in the south of Nakhon Phanom province near the Lao border. By local legend its stupa holds a breast bone of the Buddha, which makes it one of the most important sites for Theravada Buddhists. The town holds a week-long festival for the temple each year, and thousands of pilgrims come. People born in the year of the Monkey have a particular tradition of making the trip. Inside the temple, look for paintings of traditional Thai proverbs.
