About Wat Tham Suea

The temple began in 1975, when a meditating monk named Ajahn Jumnean saw tigers roaming the cave. Natural rock in the cave is shaped like a tiger's paw, and that's where the name comes from. There's a forest garden with several small caves, but most people come for the climb: 1,237 steps up to a large seated Buddha on the hilltop. It's a strenuous climb.
