About Mae Sariang
Mae Sariang is a small town in a narrow valley along the Yuam River, in the mountains near the Myanmar border. The hills around it are mostly forest, so there's little flat land for towns or farms. People here come from several backgrounds: Tai Yuan (Northern Thai) in the town and riverside villages, Shan who were among the first to settle, and Karen families. Minivans take about 3.5 hours from Chiang Mai, and it's about 4 hours by bus from Mae Hong Son on Route 108.
